2 weeks of January

It's been a while.
I've been through some adjustments in the new school as well as home .

I still can't believe that :
♥ I'm finally here in Kuching With my husband.
♥ I'm going to be a permanent resident here with God's willing.
♥ I've left the school with a very supportive staff and environment, back in Perak for good.

So, I've my husband to pinch my cheek at times just to remind me of reality.

The Ss so far are okay. I've been stressing on courtesy in the lessons a lot since I feel that is still lacking in them.
I'm trying to get some air for myself in between the main job as a teacher and completing the rest of the unofficial jobs. Honestly, being in a new school that needs everything to be initiated from scratch is very challenging. Then again, I can complain for all I want but what matters is I find the best solution.
I'm taking a step at a time for sure.

Taking baby steps.

Okay, first and foremost, this post has nothing to do with the good news that my mum has been waiting for. Smile with tongue out

Last week, I was offered to join a dancing team for this PSKPP for district level. I was reluctant and refused it at first. But, my mentor who is also the manager and dancing trainer of the team was like lamenting about the lack of another dancer for so many times and unfortunately, it made me feel guilty and I sympathized them. So, with the 50-50 feeling, I said that I would help them but with the warning as I had no basic nor any ability to remember steps easily.

The first few days were very stressful and tormenting to me as I could not comprehend and grasp the steps well. It felt like learning Add Maths…when you were taught the basics but then, the teacher proceeded too fast and this poor slow learner was unable to differentiate which came first or how. I felt like crying so hard every time we finished our practice. Everyone was doing so well. And I was like a stick that was trying to bend itself as graceful as possible which only turned out to be like an hideous troll with minimal awkward steps.

Then, we had our Malaysia Day holiday. I rejuvenated myself once I was with my husband. Changing my perspectives and attitude to be more positive.

This week, we started every thing with full commitment. My mentor is being very helpful and patience to all of us.  With on-going practices, we managed to grasp a full choreographed dance moves. Traditional dance, okay!

So, tomorrow is the last day for us to practice. Let’s hope every thing goes well.

Taking one step at a time.

Character Building Camp for the Prefects

Day two at Felda Residence, Trolak.
Bdk2 buat point rafting.
Aku bagi smgt and asik2 camwhoring ngan diorg.
They invited me to tag along with them when they sailed the raft.
Yet it was not allowed.
By the time the raft touched the surface of the water, i know that their raft was the most solid one.
I shouted and gave them support.
When they returned, they asked me to stay at the other side of the pond so that they could sail and take me along.
I was touched by that gesture.
Thanks, guys.

Teacher & her irrelevant rambles

Today, I don’t know what happened to me

Everything seems chaotic

Unorganized

Nerve-wrecking

Then, in my Form 2 & Form 1 classes I did something that I did not expect I could do effortlessly

I nagged them

I rambled on something related to the lesson which later on diverted to something nonsense

Somehow I wonder if these kids learn anything in their Civic and Nationality Education

I don’t want to be a teacher who merely delivers lesson but is not able to inculcate positive values within the students

Yet, I know it is not a good excuse for me to waste the time with nonsense rambling but I really really hope they are taking at least a pinch of my advice

Nevertheless, I sense some developments within me. A sign of embracing teacher’s life?

A satisfying lesson

Today , I taught them revision on Simple Present & Simple Past tense.

During the note-taking, it was dull.

Yet, when I explained things to them, they paid good attention.

I was not sure if they really understand what I’ve been teaching them.

So, I let them off to the library with the task sheet.

I monitored their work and pin-pointed at the mistakes they made.

It was a great satisfaction when we checked the answers together.

They were able to explain the reasons to have the respective answers, just like what they learned in previous lessons. It was like a chant,

“ Why is the answer is in basic verb?” “Because modal, teacher.”

“What is the verb form after ‘to’ ? “Root word!”

Oh my…they remembered the lesson well. What a feeling !

I realised that they do need grammar lesson. But they need exercises as reinforcement of what they’ve learned.

Ticky Tock Tock

Getting used to life now.

Yet, I realised that when your heart lies at another place,

you can’t really do things wholeheartedly.

Now, I’ve less than 2 months to prepare for my big day and there’s

no news of the greens in my account.

Clock’s ticking and I’m starting to feel uneasy…not yet in panic mode but it’s there waiting to leap out of the shadow.

In a few days, I’ll be at another part of the world with God’s willing.

I really hope the weather will ‘behave’ so that I can maximize my short stay there.

Bounded by SBP

I had my schooling years at SBP in KK.
I dreaded those old times.
Felt like I was a zombie, trying to survive the hectic life there.

Yet, when I really look forward to start my career wholeheartedly,
I was a bit taken aback,
Because I was expected to report for duty at one of the SBPs

Again, I'm living my life as a zombie
But I feel that it's worst than before.
At least, when I was a student, I could have my meals 5 times a day.
Now, to even grab a bite for breakfast or lunch is quite impossible.
Too many things to be done, Too many things require attention.
Guessing that anytime soon, I'll have my gastric attack.

It’s for real!

So, I was posted to one of the SBPs in Perak on the 17th January.

I was excited and nervous as well once I stepped on the school’s compound.

I can say that I’m totally grateful that I’ve finally gotten my job for REAL

One good thing after another. Now, I’ll just have to bear the ups and downs until

I receive my salary.Smile

No more hassles for the occupied teachers

Lucky me!

I found such an interesting website that can provide most of the information and tips that I might need for my future English lessons.

During my practical session last year, I found myself feeling extremelly despair and demented because I couldn’t find my way on how to teach the kids.

I tried searching on the net, buying and borrowing English books to help me prepare the lessons but I tell you, they were so boring because I was not able to be creative enough to bring the kids to enjoy the lessons better. I tried to discuss with friends but I failed to deliver the ideas into my lessons. Thank God for coloured papers and printer (at least, I could print poster-sized diagrams as stimulus).

Then again, I might have been thinking too much because I was more concerned of trying to get the kids to open up to the language (their teacher had made them become so afraid of the language *_*) but because of the limitations and expectations set by my mentor to focus on excelling the upcoming exam, I was unable to give my best to my students. (pity them…T_T) I was fortunate because my easy-going approach was able to make the students connected better to the language and myself. But seriously, I dreaded myself for not being able to give them fun & exciting lessons all the way.

After nearly a year, I stumbled upon this English language resource site and I was a bit disappointed for not being able to discover it during the time that I really needed such a site. Then again, at least I have the opportunity to explore it before I officially being posted to a school that would accept me as their ESL teacher.

So English teachers out there, if you’re so occupied with your tasks and need an extra hand on preparing your lessons, do visit this website :

p/s: like any other resource sites, you can also contribute your own materials and share the love with everyone…Just kidding

6th Anniversary

The past 6 days, we enjoyed life at KK together

Reliving our memories

With friends, we went to Grace Point and Taj to hang out together and shared old stories of all the C4 members

In a blink of an eye, my first day of registering at Gaya College’s hall had passed so quickly that tomorrow will be Gaya C4’s 6th anniversary.

Everyone has developed and matured into a better being.

I pray that may each of us walk through a great journey ahead with success, integrity and valuable experiences

InsyaAllah.

Purple and Gold

Now that the final result had been released officially, I can finally talk about my own Academic Exercise in this blog. It was a bit awful of me to only reveal my AE once I knew it was graded well. Unfortunately, that was what I had in heart right after I had sent the four copies of my AEs to be hard bound.

It was inspired by the Cool Tutor’s Master’s thesis

Then, it was narrowed to have a clearer focus by Mdm Z

Title was approved by Mr G

Data was provided by the hardworking kids of 2 Al-Falah ‘10

After having the 3rd draft of the completed AE, it was read by a Second reader, whom I was told was Dr.G

Had it improvised to be ‘perfected’, gave it to Cool Tutor to be proofread and finally, submitted the finalised AE to my supervisor

During our farewell BBQ dinner, Mr L told me he would have a look at my AE, which made me feel even nervous.

I thank God that I managed to complete it despite my procrastinations and slow starts that I had.

I thought of the possibility that the grading might not be valid but I had three extra readers to justify my work. So, I am relieved by that fact.

My credits to:

p/s: not to forget Ms V, for her undying words of supports and her volunteer to read my AE drafts

Like a three-pointer shot

I could not get myself online that day, maybe it was the weather.

I was restless, mortified, and tensed

Yet, it changed with the text sent by Mr Munchkin

No one can ever match the feelings of satisfaction, bliss and gratitude that I felt the moment I saw the text message

I screamed my heart out that all the cats stared at me like I was a crazy person.

I got the 8th DL and qualified for the Vice Chancellor award.

That night I managed to check my email to reconfirm my result, and it was weird that I thought that I definitely saw the numbers of my gpa and cgpa in my blank mind before I went asleep the day before. But, it was a weird-grateful feeling though.

All of my efforts and previous hardships had been paid off. As if when I was at the court, I managed to score with a three-pointer shot. Yes, to some I might not be as clever or as diligent as other people but I did work hard in my own way and capabilities.

Now, I am anticipating the next journey of being the educator of the future generation. I hope God will grant me with all the knowledge that I can share with them and also the strength to cope with all sorts of responsibilities that are coming on my way.

It’s okay

This is what I have decided

Having to receive such an offer is a big deal to me

It is such an honour too

I thought that I am able to squeeze all the things that I want and have them done once and for all

But, it is not possible

Did my reality checks

I will attend to things that require my delicate and undivided attention within this 12-month period of time

Dear God, please let me be firm with this decision. I will postpone the other option that you have given me and pursue it with him together.

I must not get stress on such matter anymore

I have him by my side and we will have all the things that we want together, soon.

Je ne mange pas

Un garçon écrit à la fille qu'il aime :

‘Le matin, je ne mange pas car je pense à toi;
à midi, je ne mange pas car je pense à toi;
le soir, je ne mange pas car je pense à toi;
la nuit, je ne dors pas car j'ai faim !'

This is one of the prominent French jokes that is still fresh in my mind that my teacher used to teach us about time of the day. Well, it is so funny and so related to some of us who were just learned to be involved with the world of love. Perhaps, I could use this method to teach my future students too, right?

What?! I'm Back at home?

Yes, actually I am reluctant to leave the hostel
I've purposely delayed my trip back home since last Friday
Having to indulge myself with the freedom of educational commitments was quite exhilarating.
I took the time to fill in my external hard disk with all sorts of movies and series from various sources
At night, I encountered with some friends' conflict of interest which made me feel that there were things which should not be made as competition or to condemn each other. But, after consoling myself and figuratively slap myself to be positive and focus on the real mission, I decided to ignore things, sleep it off, pray that God will help us and less FB-ing.
I made myself observe the big room and I realised that despite the unsatisfactory treatments that we received from Gaya admin, ;

  • I love the big space
  • I love the fairly cool temperature of the place as compared to Shah Alam , Sungai Petani and my current home. Maybe because of the old building and the fact that the hostel is on a hill and surrounded by a swampy area
  • It was the place that I could shower and enjoy the cool water as I please
  • I've my feline companions here as well
  • I shared stories, fun, laughters and tears with my friends

At 2 p.m. , I left the room with Eleen and bid my goodbye to the last person in the room. I dislike the feelings but I've to move on. I should be grateful to have the time to stay home before proceeding into the career world...yikes!

Don’t cry

It hurts to see the people who are significant to us leave

It hurts more to see the ones that we have to leave burst into tears of sadness

This little heart hopes that everyone will be strong and hold on to the good memories.

And that’s the end of it

How should I say this?

Am I happy?

Am I relieved?

Am I sad?

All I know is that I’ve mixed feelings within me.

Six years of being an undergraduate ended officially with the last and only examination that we had this morning.

Now, I have to start arranging my steps accordingly for the upcoming journey that awaits me in less than a month.

Along the way, I have five years to think and decide of what I’m supposed to do next.

However, I prefer to do things just the way I’ve been doing things for so long ; to go with the flow.

Of course, I wish all the best for my dearest Cohort 4 friends. Bright future awaits us so, go for it!

Reward for the Second Last Assignment

It has been awhile since the last time we went out together.
I miss spending time with him and doing the old stuffs together.
I know he is sick but as he wants to get out of the suffocating hostel, so I decided to treat him.
We watched The Roommate.
Ate our favourite Tuah bakery bread.
Had a set of basketball shots.
Played picture puzzle.

But what I liked best was we got to play pool together…

The view of KK before we entered the movie theater.

I want more of these but seems like there are too many things need to be taken into consideration…oh lame nya life!

How Was the Dinner?

I believe that this was one of the glamorous events I’ve been to and for the final TESL annual dinner that I attended, I managed to get myself a simple yet beautiful dress *tq to Anis for her endless support & Mama for her taste in  fashion & also for realising my wish.
So, this was how I looked like last night and as the theme of the function was Avenue of Icons, I had my looked inspired by Jennifer Garner with a little bit of Kim Kardashian’s twist…haha *if it was not that similar, biar la arr…let this girl berangan a bit..;p

Overall the dinner was okay. I think that the organizer managed to gather most of Gaya’s TESLians as the ballroom was quite occupied. Here are some pictures taken during the dinner:

    Posing with dearest friends

While waiting for the function to start

Trifles

Having the chance to spend time with ex-lecturers

But most importantly, I got to enjoy the night with him…

 It was fun hehe

However, I can’t help but notice that we had two pictures of similar pose during our first annual dinner together as a couple & the one as final year students…

Quite similar, right? hehehe

Embracing the Fantasy in Us

We had our Children’s Handcrafted Books’ Fair on 14th of April.

So, our group decided to have a photo-shoot and dress according to the characters that suited the theme of magical and fantasy. With the help of our class’ talented photographer (Ariffudin), we came up with these pictures for our children’s book.

Ms. Xierra as the Fairy

Yes, Extra photos of me as I would like to have them as one of my fondest memories because I rarely dressed up in costume…hehe

So, the question for now, what shall I do with the wings, the flower headband and the magical wand? Haha if they can still survive after five years…maybe you can see them again in action…;p

Basically, I enjoyed and had fun during the exhibition. Seeing all my friends got dressed up in various characters was quite interesting. Glad that we managed to pull it through and even our college’s director came to see it..(she never showed up for any activities organized by TESL students). The so-called misbehaved Cohort 4 managed to lure the director and see us in action…the feeling was so satisfying!
