I was enrolled into a Chinese kindergarten.
It was only for a year but I succeeded to go through the Malay subject classes
without being noticed---My workbook was ruined by spilled water(you know lah kids~)
Despite the lack of involvement in class, I still took part in the activities
especially in singing sessions --- learned all the Chinese, English and Malay songs.
However, the one that still clings in my mind is “Hujan Dah Turun”
This was how I sang the song: ---->
Tip tap tip tap hujan dah turun
Tip tap tip tap hujan dah turun
Tip tap tip tap baju dah basah
Mari kita ambil bayung~
If you noticed, I pronounced the initial consonant of the word ‘payung’ with the
consonant ‘b’ .
I even fought with my mother about the correct pronunciation of the word and
the justification that I presented was “ My teacher taught me that!”
Well, entering the primary school made me realized my mistake.
I guess it was the overwhelming influence of how the Chinese pronounces
certain letters differently..----I couldn’t help it, really!
p/s: I kind of missed the chicken porridge and fried mee that were served to us during recess…Tq mum for enrolling me to Tzu Yu kindergarten…
