So You Think You Can Teach ESL? *_*

A senior of mine had recently shared a link of TESL Malaysia with an interesting article entitled "So You Think You Can Teach ESL?"

One of the parts that captured my interest was the second point of the article--->

"TESL programme is not merely a platform for learning English"

Seriously, I could relate this to my own experience whereby I found myself struggling in the beginning to cope with the pressure to improve my language proficiency. Honestly, the basic that I had before entering the TESL course was just fairly sufficient to enable me to 'survive'. Fortunately, I was blessed to have experienced lecturers and helpful friends who were willing to share their knowledge with me. I'm so glad that I did not end up doing unethical acts such as "copying, plagiarizing and cheating" just to compensate my shortcomings in the language.

and of course,
"TESL is not about measuring your proficiency in English"

If only I could say this to some of my friends. Just because I'm learning TESL, it doesn't mean that I'm a walking dictionary...haha  In the course, I learn and try to understand the basics of the language as well as the skills to teach the language to the students. I definitely agree that "one has to have a huge passion to teach and the passion to make sure the students learn the language". I have the second part covered but I need more motivation in order to realize the first part.

So, in answering the question of the article.....yes, InsyaAllah I can teach them accordingly....with all I have.

hahaa being an english teacher, we are perceived as a walking dictionary. It's an honour at times, but when we fall short, hurm.. let's just forget it. :D
